C...is for Cadet Chapel

The Cadet Chapel of the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs is built in the Expressionist Modern style. The striking exterior of the cadet chapel, made of steel, aluminum and glass, has 17 pointy spires resembling fighter jets soaring up to the sky.Continuous panels of brilliant stained glass diffuse light into the chapel.
The bright glass panels rise to form the ceiling.
View of the exterior side of this modern building.
More ABC photos featuring the letter "C" are on the sidebar.

It's been such a long time since I've seen the inside of the chapel. It's still just as stunning as I remember.

This is a stunning chapel! I never knew about it. Thanks!
Now I just have to get used to the idea of spires looking like fighter jets . . .

Wow. That was a special chapel and so wonderful and many details. Your pictures is great!

Ps to the pics of my goat: I stood just a few yards, meters? from the goat, could almost touch it .. and it was not so high there .. hehe:-)

Wish you a great evening!

That is a beautiful chapel.
It's always so hard to reconcile peace and war - each participant feels it has God on its side. How can a pastor/priest/chaplain bless the tools and perpetrators of war? I suppose at base it comes down to good versus evil - without political and commercial manoeuvring it would be a lot simpler - maybe.

The Air Force Academy Chapel is my favorite house of worship in the United States. If I may be so bold, some more interesting facts:

Each pew has a wooden end that also looks like a jet ascending the heavens.

All the prayer kneeling pads at the alter were hand stitched by each of the wives of the head of the academy at the time.

The lower level has a place of worship for Moslem's and Jew's, as the upstairs if for Christians.

In the Jewish synagogue below, there are religious artifacts that were brought to the Academy by the Israeli Air Force.

There is a lot more interesting stuff, but it has been years since I have been there.
