The Neon

The Neon movie theater shows only the best in foreign films and independent cinema.  Located in downtown Dayton,  it also has an outdoor patio, a liquor license, and a full service coffee bar.

Skywatch Friday

The rolling hills and scenic countryside add to the beauty of Holmes County.  I would have liked to see this photo with a bright blue sky; but the cloud cover is interesting also....what do you think....blue sky or cloudy....

Red Light

Farm equipment is often on the road this time of year as they drive to different fields.  Sometimes you can manage to pass it; sometimes you have to drive 5-10 mph behind it.  That's just the way it is in spring.

Signs

I suppose this side of the barn is the site where the signs are saved......

Lazy Day

These cows out in the pasture are just relaxing on a warm sunny day....seems like a good idea....I'm doing the same thing after returning from a trip to TX....only not in the pasture...

JFK

President John F. Kennedy was assassinated in Dallas TX on Nov. 22, 1963.  The sniper was on the sixth floor of the building on the left... in the corner window. Today this is a museum depicting  the events of that fatal day.

The president's car was driving down this street heading toward the railroad overpass when he was struck by two bullets.

Texas

I am visiting in TX this weekend, and it is hot and humid.  The Dallas skyline is hazy.

This is the bell tower at the U.D. campus.

Skywatch

This field has not yet been prepared for planting.  A farmer might have hundreds of acres in different areas; and some fields are just waiting their turn.  Rain is not a good thing right now until the crops are planted.  The photo was taken at sunset facing the eastern sky.

Roots

The roots of this tree, and most trees along this stream, are above ground.  I thought that tree roots needed to grow under the soil.  What is going on...is it the type of tree....or the soil....doesn't this seem strange...

For this shot, I just stayed in the same spot and turned around....more roots....
Taken in Tawawa Park, Shelby county for ABC Wednesday.

Lake and Railing

Ordinarily I should have snapped this without the railing; but it's yellow....

Skywatch

This late evening rural scene was taken in Berlin,Ohio.  I especially liked the different shades of green, and the somewhat troubled sky.

Q...is for Quilt

Gramma Fannie's Quilt Barn is located in Holmes County,  better known in Ohio as Amish country (note the horse and buggy in the lower right).

The barn is actually a store featuring locally hand made quilts.  The Amish lady in the photo was cheerful and friendly and readily agreed to her picture being taken. The quilts were beautiful and expensive.  This was not a bargain barn!
Upstairs, an elderly Amish woman hand stitches a quilt.

Mellow Yellow Monday

Holmes County is a beautiful section of Ohio with it's rolling hills and peaceful farms.  This is a common scene.

No Fear

I was surprised to see this doe standing beside the road...and she was surprised to see me. She was not afraid and, since we were in the Audubon Nature Preserve, I figured she must have known she was protected.

Two bridges

A tugboat pushing barges down the Ohio River cruises under a bridge connecting Ohio to West Virginia.  A second bridge can be seen in the distance.

Skywatch

This photo was taken in the middle of the city.  After driving over a bridge, I parked in a gas station, grabbed my camera and walked back.  I liked the moody look of this sky.

Photos of skies around the world are at Skywatch on the sidebar.

Painted Pony

These painted ponies are in Richland Carousel Park in downtown Mansfield.  The carousel includes 30 horses, 22 menagerie figures, and two chariots, all hand carved and hand painted.  Each figure is a work of art,  rich in design and color.

More photos are waiting to be seen at ABC Wednesday.

Country Church

My country drive took me through the "land of the cross tipped churches." So named because of the many huge churches standing in the middle of nowhere with cornfields as far as the eye can see.  All had cemeteries behind or to the side.

Abandoned

When driving on country roads, I often pass abandoned houses, which I don't like to see.  Sometimes there is still furniture in them.  Where are their owners...what happened to the families that lived here...what will become of this house now...
