Skywatch

I spotted this unusual little cloud and thought it might be a sundog. A sundog is a colored patch of light to the right or left of the sun and the same distance above the horizon as the sun.

Is it my imagination, or is there a heart shape at the bottom of that cloud....
Update: Dewdrop, at The Flight of a South Georgia Stormchaser, has commented that this is not a sundog but another phenomenon known as a circumhorizontal arc, and she's put a link in the comment box. Head over to her site for interesting weather related info.

Great eye. I spotted one like this too this June and I was looking for the rest of the rainbow. Thanks for the information.

That is really beautiful and you are so lucky to see it and even luckier to have your camera at that time. The little heart is absolutely precious!

WOW! I don't believe I've seen a sundog like that before. This is something to watch for so I had better keep my eyes peeled!

It is gorgeous and a unique capture, indeed, but sundogs look more like sideways rainbows with the red on the outside edge (side away from the sun), and they appear beside the sun at 22°, where the solar halo would occur. You have captured something much more rare, a circumhorizontal arc. Check out this link. Truly awesome! You've captured it beautifully!
