Painted Pony

These painted ponies are in Richland Carousel Park in downtown Mansfield.  The carousel includes 30 horses, 22 menagerie figures, and two chariots, all hand carved and hand painted.  Each figure is a work of art,  rich in design and color.

More photos are waiting to be seen at ABC Wednesday.

I love carousels, and that looks like a particularly impressive one.

I love the old carousels. I always enjoyed finding just the right pony to ride when I was a girl.

When reading your comment on Janie of Utah's blog, I was wondering about painting ponies, but now I understand!

The decorations of the old carousels were an art onto itself.

Oh my goodness, what a gorgeous carousel! These really are stunning ponies.. although I always love the non-pony carousel animals best :D

Lovely carousel. They do make for some great photos with all that color.

Your carousel reminds me of one we have here. It is very large and wonderfully ornate and came from the 1904 Worlds Fair in St. Louis. It was moved to the old Highland Amusement Park. When the park became old and dilapidated it was closed and it was thought the carousel was lost. Years later it was found in a warehouse and loving restored and it now runs indoors at Faust Park.

It is great that some of these old carousels still operate to remind us of how life was over a hundred years ago.
