Tuesday, April 28, 2009 for Ohio

To celebrate Ohio's bicentennial year, barn painter Scott Hagen painted this mural on a barn in each of Ohio's eighty-eight counties.  I enjoy finding these paintings on different barns all around Ohio.

No hunting

I think these young elk must have known that no hunting was allowed...they were unconcerned with people...
They slowly crossed the road...and stopped traffic in both directions....
No one seemed to mind...we were not hunting...but a few of us were shooting...
Many more photos at ABC Wednesday....

Although the weather has been getting warmer in Ohio, the trees are still leafless.  I am anxious for them to be green again.

These guys have been heading north, and that's a good sign of warm weather coming.

The original part of this building was purchased in 1861, and used as a center for training priests. The "new" center was built in 1878; and the present structure completed in 1922. The priests and brothers lived here and worked in the community as missionaries. When they passed away, they were buried in the cemetery in the foreground.

A front view of the building which is located in Carthagena, Ohio and is now a non-profit retirement community.  In 2006, the inside was renovated into independent apartments for senior living.

While visiting North Carolina a few weeks ago, I took this sky shot. I don't know what kind of clouds these are, but they were moving quickly, and seemed to be hurrying to the same spot.

L is for Longaberger

This basket shaped seven story building is the home office of The Longaberger Company, which makes handcrafted baskets.  Longaberger has received numerous construction awards for this building which is 180,000 sq. ft. and is located in Newark, Ohio.  The handles weigh 150 tons and are heated to prevent ice from forming.

"If they can put a man on the moon, they can certainly build a building that's shaped like a basket"....Dave Longaberger, Founder.   ABC Wednesday...

Driving on an old country road, I came upon this ornate church and stopped in for a peek.

The sky did not seem to be very photogenic during the daylight hours;  but later, this blazing sunset came out to show off.  From afar, it looked like fire behind those trees.
