JAIL

The Ohio State Reformatory in Mansfield has been the location of several major films including "The Shawshank Redemption".  Constructed between 1886 and 1910, it has the largest cell block ever built.
Designed by an architect from Cleveland, it was constructed to resemble a German castle. The institution was closed in 1990; but has become a tourist attraction due to its use in films.
More photos are waiting to be seen at ABC Wednesday.

Great J. word. Beautiful architecture for a penitentiary. It's interesting to learn that Shawshank Redemption was filmed there.

How interesting that a jail is now a tourist attraction. It sure is castle-like!

I thought it looked vaguely familiar! It's a very interesting building. Far nicer than our local - modern - jail!

That's rather different architecture for a jail! I like the roof.

A great photo! I can see why it has become a tourist attraction--certainly one of the loveliest jails I've ever seen.

Great choice. Amazing how something so beautiful could be contructed for such an ugly purpose. Not your typical Jail :)

I didn't know the Shawshank Redemption was filmed in Mansfield! It's really a beautiful building, even if it is (was) a jail.

What an amazing building, I can see why it gets used for film locations. Great post.
