Historic Place

Located in Mentor, Ohio, this is the home of James and Lucretia Garfield and their seven children (5 sons and 2 daughters).  James Abram Garfield was the 20th president of the U.S. and the second U.S. president to be assassinated. He had been in office only four months when he was shot and fatally wounded in 1881; he was 49 yrs. old.  


James Garfield had been a teacher, college principal, ordained minister, state legislator, lawyer, Civil War general, congressman, and  president.
